2022 INVESTMENT STRATEGY: OPTIMISING RISK AND RETURN
22 Feb 2022 · Outlook Reports
The first quarter of 2022 poses the familiar question of the past two years. How do
Nigerian savers and investing institutions make investments that approximate to the
rate of Naira inflation? How do they accrue value over the long term?
We answer these questions in the context of rapidly-changing macroeconomic
conditions worldwide. Inflation is rising across developed economies, and interest rate
rises are on the way. Although Nigeria’s markets do not correlate with global markets,
Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Eurobond yields are affected by rates elsewhere.
This close connection means that yields have risen to attractive levels, which provide
opportunities for US dollar-based investors, in our view.
